Each month, we highlight one of our Twin Hill team members. This month, we're speaking with Tiara Kilgore, Purchasing Coordinator.
What is your job title? Purchasing Coordinator
How long have you worked at Twin Hill? 4 ½ years
What’s the first thing you do when you get to work? I read through all of my new emails, and check in with my boss to get an idea of how to prioritize my day.
Coffee or tea? Tea please!!! I keep several boxes of tea as well as Texas-made honey :)
Have you read any good books lately? Yes! I’m currently reading the novel “Sleeping Beauties” by Stephen and Owen King. I’ve just finished “Deception Point” by Dan Brown, and it was a reeeeaaaaally intense read with an unexpected ending!
What is your favorite season in Texas? I thought it was always summer in Texas?? Lol, I love the fall and spring equally. Great temperatures and breezes make it a wonderful time to explore the city!
How have you progressed since joining Twin Hill? I began as a customer service rep before moving over to the data entry team, where Veronica P and I coordinated the Celebration Committee to help brighten up the workplace with crazy events and fun decorations! Last year I was promoted to join the planning team as the Purchasing Coordinator and I’m loving all of the new skills I’m picking up from my team!
What are your main responsibilities? My main responsibilities are to place, track, and chase all of our purchase orders (POs). Anything that we order from vendors or manufacturers has to be monitored daily to ensure that we receive what we need to satisfy customer demand.
Which part of your job do you enjoy the most? I think the best part of my job is working with my supervisor John Henson. I’ve gleaned so much information from him! He is always willing to teach me new skills and provide additional information that help me perform my job to the best of my ability.
What is the most challenging part of your job? The most challenging aspect of my job has been switching from possessing a depth of knowledge of the customer service industry on all fronts to having very little understanding how things work in the planning and procurement world. Thankfully our planning team is full of immensely knowledgeable individuals who are great at explaining why and how things work!
What’s your favorite sports team? I’m not much of a sports fan, but I do know that the St. Louis Cardinals = the best baseball team in the world!!!!!!!!!
What department is your role under? My role is under the wonderful planning team.
What makes your team different than others? My team is the most different from others here at Twin Hill, because we typically do not have direct contact with our customers. We work behind the scenes to support our national sales team, customer service team, and program managers as they all work hand in hand with our customers.
How would you describe your team in three words? Knowledgeable, dedicated, helpful
Outside of work, do you have any hobbies or interests? My hobbies include reading, cooking, watching anime, going to the movies, and random friend adventures!!
What has been the highlight of your career at Twin Hill so far? I think the highlight of my career at Twin Hill was executing our first company-wide after hours event. It was a huge project that required a ton of planning to make sure that all of the components came together seamlessly. I had make sure we met the expectations of not only the customer service group that we were used to serving, but also the DC team and all of our management. Thankfully, our “Casino Night” went off without a hitch and received high praise from everyone!!
What is one thing that most people do not know about you? I don’t think anyone would believe that I’m REALLY, REALLY shy. I put on a brave face, but I’m typically trembling on the inside when presenting or meeting new people.
If you could be anywhere (other than the office) right now, where would you be? I’d be home in St. Louis with my Grandmother, Mom, siblings, nephews, and niece.
What’s the best vacation spot? The best vacation spot I’ve been to was Panama City Beach, FL. The beautiful beaches, great food, and friendly people were everything I needed to relax and enjoy myself!
What will you do when you get home today? When I get home today (Wednesday), I’ll have a glass of wine and call my mom to tell her that my nerves and I survived an interview lol.
